The German LKW Maut was implemented on 1-1-2005. TollCollect has received a temporary licence from the German Traffic Ministry to collect toll on the German highways.

It is estimated that 300.000 of the 800.000 trucks frequently travelling in Germany have on on-board-units installed with which the toll can be paid automatically.

Because there are many vehicles without this device, problems (some speak of chaos rather than problems) are likely to arise in the beginning of next year. Shortage of vehicles, congestion, technical problems, traffic problems caused by trucks queing up at stops to obtain a manual ticket etc.

The German government has announced that immediately from the start, a team of 500 policemen working in 3 shifts will be checking if Maut is paid for vehicles on the highways resulting in even more delays to trucks.

Due to the above, it is difficult to see how Norwegian traffic routed via Denmark and then passing through Germany can be considered an "express transit route". While trucks are delayed in Denmark Sea Cargo ships enjoy free passage on the "toll free" North Sea directly into Amsterdam.

Once in Amsterdam Sea Cargo Agencies can offer truck only or Truck and trailer services throughout Europe. Two sailings per week 32 hours passage, On time, every time.
