Change in BAF as from 8th January 2007
Sea-Cargo is pleased to announce a reduction in BAF as from 8th
January.
The average bunkers cost has in the last few months come down
from its peak in autumn of 2006 - when Platts prices reached a
top of USD 658/per tonn for Marine Gas Oil. The average level
seen during 4th quarter 2006 has been very much higher than the
Sea-Cargo BAF basis of March/April 2006. However, the extra cost
incurred in 4th quarter 2006 has in full been covered by the line
- which during the entire period has maintained a BAF charge at
a competative rate of only 15%.
NOX surcharge as from 8th January 2007
Sea-Cargo regrets to announse the introduction of a NOX surcharge
as from 8th January 2007.
The Norwegian Government has from 1st January 2007 introduced
a new duty on Bunkers, or more correctly on NOX emission from
fossil fuels. The new duty is NOK 15/kg NOX emission - which set
to 75kg per ton of bunkers. This represents an extra cost of NOK
1125 (or USD 180) per ton of bunkers consumed. The duty is only
applicable for consumption inside Norwegian controlled waters.
Sea-Cargo (and other key market players) will do its outmost
to reduce the consequences of the new duty - which in the long
term could cause some unwanted effects in the way we operate our
liner services (inside the Norwegian waters).
